SARAH HYDE
E-RYT® 200, YACEP®

Hi, I’m Sarah (she/her). I’m a Seattle-based yoga and meditation teacher, a writer, and a lifelong student. For a little perspective, I’m a type 2 Enneagram, a Gemini sun / Libra moon / Cancer rising. I offer a wide array of practices including hatha, vinyasa, yin and restorative yoga, meditation, yoga nidra, sound baths, reiki and conscious connected breathwork. My goal is to help you find ease in your body, connect with your true self, and learn to slow down, calm your nervous system, and rest. I’m so glad you’re here!

My goal as a movement instructor is to provide a modern class experience that’s steeped in the history and philosophy of all eight limbs of yoga, helping students transcend the boundaries of an exercise class and step into something deeper and more profound. My classes focus on breath and body connection, and listening to and honoring your own body and what it needs. Every class I teach is designed to be as accessible as possible, and my hope is that the spaces I hold feel welcoming to beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. I incorporate music and sound elements into my classes, as well as the use of props and the opportunity to modify your practice. Everything we do in my class is an offering, and all levels are welcome.

I became a yoga student in 2012, at a time when anxiety and depression were taking over my life. I’ve always enjoyed a good, sweaty workout, but I was looking for something more contemplative, something physically challenging that would also support me on my inward journey of healing and growth. This practice has made my life so much richer than I could have imagined. When nothing else can quiet the mind or still the body, coming to your mat can. All you have to do is show up, over and over and over, and trust that once you know yourself better, things will get easier. I won’t say that I never experience anxiety or depression anymore, but I am much, much better at living with my mental health issues than I was before yoga.

More and more as time goes by and I grow older (and hopefully at least a little wiser), I’m realizing that what I love most is helping people let go of unhelpful energy (stress, trauma, anxiety, etc) and find true rest. Rest is the space where healing, transformation, growth and magic happen. I was drawn to restorative and yin yoga very early in my practice, and those were the yoga offerings I always felt most called to share. Now, I’ve been fortunate to study meditation, sound healing, breathwork and reiki, and I have a lot of amazing tools to share to help you rest - or, at the very least, release some tension and calm your nervous system.

After growing up in the midwest and northeast, I moved to the left coast in 2010 and found my perfect home in Seattle, where I live with my partner and our two dogs, Baker (yellow lab) and Penny (golden retriever). I spent almost 20 years of my professional life working in non-profit communications and marketing, primarily in higher education. In 2018, I left my full-time marketing gig and signed up for a yoga teacher training program, unsure of what the future held for me. And now, I’m an entrepreneur and full-time teacher and space holder. And, despite the challenges of building a small business during pandemic years, I have never been happier!

A nomad and travel junkie, I’ve visited 48/50 states and I’m working my way through all the many, many destinations on my bucket list. The city I can’t stop repeat-visiting is Paris. The place I’m dying to see is South Africa. I’m a hardcore night owl; I enjoy a hot cup of tea or a glass of wine, all things arts-related, swimming in warm water, knitting, and the coldest, darkest, snowiest weather. I am deeply attached to my dogs, and I’m drawn to the sad movies and books and music. When I’m not teaching, writing or creating, you'll find me practicing yoga, taking a long walk, listening to podcasts or records, doing a puzzle, practicing piano or guitar (rather poorly) and singing along (somewhat well), or, more often than not, just reading a good book.
